Crochet update

Now that was a long stretch without a blog update. I've been extremely busy though and felt the need to update. The most recent being some of my yarn bombed chairs are being exhibited at the Jennifer Harwell gallery. I love the way that she has them displayed in the front of the gallery. I've also been taking in custom orders and preparing for the Craft Bazaar (18 days from now). I don't feel as prepared as I should be, it's definitely crunch time at this point. Oh...last month, my friend Tracy and I did a yarn bomb in support of Race for the Cure. I can't get enough of the yarn bombing. My aunt (2 year survivor) has one of the larger pieces I made, and my mother and grandmother also rescued a piece as well. The rest were gone by the end of the weekend. I did get a few pics. I have realized that I haven't created any new designs all year. There actually were a couple of designs created that ended up jotted down in a composition notebook. So eventually, I am hoping to have them typed up, tested and available at some point. I will admit it is liberating to create something completely artistic, with no rhyme or reason and no rules to adhere to. I'll try to update with better pics soon. I'm really glad to see the weather changing, this is my favorite time of year. For those of us who knit and crochet, its the busiest time of year.

Preparing for another yarn bomb. A bit last minute and only a week to prepare! This one has a color theme, which is kinda nice because all of the smaller pieces seem to go together as one large piece. Even though this is already a busy weekend, I'm trying to make as many in the color theme as possible since Friday we will assemble everything. I can't wait to see how it looks together with Tracy's pieces...hopefully pretty amazing. I've had to put a few things on the back burner to get this finished by Friday. I'm under a deadline to finish some yarn bombed pieces for a gallery showing next month, just glad that the largest piece is covered and only needs a little embellishment, but still a lot of smaller projects still undone. I'm a little worried about it, good thing I work well under pressure. I'll be able to make up for lost time next weekend, a serious marathon planned, new audiobook downloaded and looking forward to it. As far as today, it looks like I'll be out of the house the entire afternoon, so not much will be done as far as crocheting. The possibility of having some photos taken (which desperately needs to be done for the Etsy shop)is promising though, so not a total waste precious down time on my last day off before the event.

I know an update is long overdue...my hands are still busy stitching, so that's my excuse for the lack of blogging. My mother's bedspread is still unfinished, but at least she has decided that she wants a Queen sized bedspread instead of King since she has finally decided to downsize her bedroom furniture. This time of year I'm usually trying to get as much inventory as I can get done for the Fall season, my Etsy shop is empty except for patterns right now. It seems that whenever I prepare to work on inventory, another commissioned job seems to come up. So glad I really enjoy the work, especially around this time of year, which is usually pretty slow when it comes to crochet items.

I've done a couple more yarn bombing projects lately. On May 23rd, "Traci" (the accomplice) and I yarn bombed the front of the YMCA for a health fair. They really seemed to enjoy it and actually brought tables out front (which I had never seen them do in the past). There are actually a few pieces that are still out front, including the bike rack cover that was inspired by the Loch Ness Monster. The last piece I did was the child's chair "Chair-y Bomb" for a church benefit. I was told by the artist who commissioned me (and many other artists to paint or decorate chairs which were all auctioned) that my chair brought in the most $$$. We are discussing future yarn bombing projects for the very near future.

Lastly...I'm somewhat reluctantly getting into the photography props game as well and recently got a few professional photos of my first pieces. It's difficult for me to enter this field because of the sizing questions and then taking photos that are effective (without using any of those creepy life sized baby dolls). Still tweaking a few patterns, but I think I'm off to a pretty good start. There is also a new shrug pattern close to completion also. Stay tuned!

My hands have been busy stitching, finishing up the last of my custom orders just a few weeks ago. I am now trying to focus on the gift I had intended to finish by Christmas, (so many custom orders prevented me from working on it much at all) my mother’s specially requested king sized bed spread. It’s a little more than half done at this point, and so beautiful. I wish I could keep it for myself. She also requested pillow shams…we’ll see. There are A LOT of squares still left to be completed…all the same color. I’d like to finish this so I can have complete creative freedom and hopefully get a few new patterns done for this coming fall. When I have a big project like this that I’m trying to complete, I like to listen to audio books along the way. The last couple I listened to were re-visits of a couple of old favorites that I had actually read many years ago, so I purchased them on cds and listened from my mp3 player. I’m presently listening to a book I’ve owned, but haven’t taken the time to read (my text version is 1,138 pages), from a favorite author. Stephen King’s It. Based on the customer reviews, I had to get it and make this my next long listen since it was FINALLY available on audio. The narrator (Steven Weber) is superb! And I’ve heard some truly awful narrators. I’m about half way into the story right now, and I already know it will be a new favorite.

Other than that, I finally finished preparing my flower beds for spring. I widened the front bed and created another on the opposite side using the lasagna method. I also used hypertufa stones to border the beds. Since my Rosemary plant is flourishing, I plan to plant a few more favorite herbs in front along with some perennials. I'm pretty excited about selecting them. I also created a raised bed in the back/side of my house which I intend to use as a salad garden. I'm a little nervous about the "critters" that I may discovery, but I am arming myself with some gardening weapons and working on my courage also. Looking at all my little sprouts inside just aching to get outside in the new bed is helping. I want to see them thrive. We'll see how it goes.

What a rare treat I have today! Snow fell on Alabama…and ICE, so NO WORK TODAY…yippee!

William and I were ill prepared for the storm because we had been immersed in a home renovation project that took a while longer than expected. A newly renovated office (laminate floors, paint, new desk, etc.) and new floors in the kitchen.

This is the first morning that we were able to sit at our new workspace, clad in pj’s and sipping hazelnut coffee…the beautiful snowy view from the patio was like the reward for all the hard work.

I my giddy-snow day-hookey day tone, I suggested him… “You should have a snow day sale today”. He chuckled, and I think he dismissed me because he continued doing whatever it was he was doing. I reminded him that he never paid up on the bet that he lost wherein he stated LAST MONDAY, “This floor will be done TODAY.” He sheepishly looked at me again. “You owe me…AND you had ALL WEEK and still didn’t deliver what you promised on Monday”. Today there was a good turnout of people. William and I did pretty well today and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. It felt like the day went by quickly, and I was happy about the hours not being too grueling (10-4), tomorrow it's from 11-4. I'm not looking forward to the daunting task of packing it all up again, it was so nice to leave everything set up each night though. Not every location had that luxury. Here are a few pictures of my set-up and the room.

Bottletree Craft Bazaar 2010

I absolutely LOVED being a part of this event last year. This is the 5th year that they've put it on. It has grown as I had predicted, and I'm sure will continue to. Last year, the Craft Bazaar was 2 days (Saturday & Sunday). Even at the 4 year point, it had already outgrown the Bottletree and was in about 2 separate locations nearby. This year, there are even more locations and a shuttle is provided. I love the location I'm in this year. Yet another beautiful old building right in the middle of being renovated. Beautifully finished concrete floors, brick walls with that grenecian plaster. I made sure that I was there at noon today to pick a nice location, the one wall with some sort of paint over grenecian plaster (I think)...we were trying to figure it out...it's really unique and sort of a washed out teal/green. I've taken a few pics...I'm going to make a few changes and then take more pics tomorrow of the entire room. The owner said he would show William and I his upstairs loft tomorrow, which I can imagine is just amazing. William and I are sharing a booth this year and the event is 3 days instead of 2. I'm already exhausted since I still had to go to work today and all the running around to set up and then having to go back to work...I'm pretty beat! I'm so glad it doesn't start until 10 and all the setting up is behind me. I'm about to pour a glass of wine and wind some yarn for sale tomorrow...what a perfect excuse to destash.

After only about 6 months in business, William had a set of buttons featured on Etsy's front page! He didn't realize it, but was wondering why that item received so many views on yesterday. I searched the vault on craftcult early this morning and was thrilled to see him featured. When I told him, he didn't completely believe me, but came running upstairs to look for himself. He was postively GIDDY, which was evident by the little dance he did. I'm really so proud of him, and the fact that he has taken the reins on the photos now as well, so it's truly all his doing. Hopefully one day, I'll get a spot on the front page (fingers crossed).

This is an old pattern that someone recently asked me to make. It's really more of a schematic and can easily be adjusted to fit any size. Enjoy!

I took a tape measure and measured the widest part of my upper arm, this determined the length of my starting chain (granted I added a few stitches so it wouldn't be tight). You will be working the short rows, or working one sleeve, the bodice and then the other sleeve.

Also, you will want to try this shrug on periodically near the end so that you will have the sleeves and body the length and fit you desire.

For a slouchier fit, add more rows and leave the bodice (middle section) wider.

MATERIALS:
Approximately 200 grams of fingering or baby weight yarn (sport weight works well also)

Size H or I crochet hook

Safety pins

Tapestry Needle (optional)

Row 1: trc in 5th chain from hook and in each stitch to end of row.

Row 2: ch 5 (counts as 1st trc); trc in next stitch; *ch 1; skip next stitch; trc in next 2 stitches*; repeat from * to * to end of row, ending in 2 trc.

Row 3: trc in each stitch across (including ch 1 spaces)

Row 4 - end: Repeat row 2 and 3 to desired length.

Fold over and TRY ON for perfect fit.
Use safety pins to pin shrug sleeves where desired.

You can crochet the seams: Join by doing 4 sl st in side of each row, starting from bottom of shrug to body of shrug on both sides.

Or simply use a tapestry needle and sew the seams using a whip stitch.

Ulari Fingerless Driving Gloves

I'm still feeling pretty inspired by the changing of the seasons. I'm starting to see the first signs of the leaves changing colors and the past week was the first of the season with temperatures that barely made it in the 80's. I've started shopping (a little) for a few new pieces...new boots, a few sweaters and skirts. The summer tops will be making their final 2010 round soon and I'm looking forward to wearing a few new hand crochet pieces this year. I'm seeing a lot of fingerless gloves making appearances this fall/winter in so many incarnations that I attempted yet another crochet interpretation. This design I'm calling Ulari, which means "Beautiful thing" in Igbo. There will be a matching hat to go with this design, just hoping the actual crochet interpretation is what I'm seeing in my mind's eye. The pattern for the gloves isn't completed yet, but should be soon, I'm eager to get it tested (along with the hat if all goes well).

Cinematic Orchestra - The Man With The Movie Camera

This is one of the first songs that I ever heard by The Cinematic Orchestra years ago...I think it's still my favorite. But then again, I have so many favorites by this band, they're really one of the very best and one that I would LOVE to see live.

I had a call from a very nice lady today who lives in New Jersey. Her daughter bought one of my crochet patterns, but doesn't crochet, so she was making it for her daughter and had a question. She explained when I first spoke to her last week that she was 89 years old, she didn't have a computer, so the only way I could help her was to talk to her. She was so sweet and gave me such compliments on my pattern and how her opinion of the style, stitch, etc. (Kelechi beanie). It was really fun to talk to her.

I've been thinking about submission(s) for Vanna's Crochet Contest this year. I think for sure I'm going with a purse idea that's floating around in my head. Still trying to put it together in my head before attempting right now. And the fact I'm so behind on my mother's Christmas gift she requested last year. I'm getting a little worried. I'm only about 90 squares in, and I have ALOT more to go. At least I'm joining as I go and the ends are weaved in. There is going to have to be a CROCHETING MARATHON for a few days in order to get that one done by Christmas.

Gerald's Game (again)

Just thought I'd throw in a random, non-crochet related blog post. I'm reading Gerald's Game again. This was the first Stephen King novel I ever read, about 15 years ago. I then found it on clearance at a Hollywood Video when they were getting rid of all of their audiobooks, so I couldn't leave it in there. That had to have been over ten years ago, and they're actual cassette tapes! I dusted them off and decided to go on this psychological rollercoaster ride one more time and I'm almost done. This still remains one of King's best (out of the few that I've read) in my opinion. It's just making me want to revisit my other favorites now.

Akudo Fingerless Gloves

I had an Etsy customer purchase the Akudo Toque last week in gray to match a pair of handknit gloves that she purchased from another seller on Etsy. I have yet to create a pair of fingerless gloves, and it got me to thinking what the Akudo fingerless gloves would look like if they existed. The stitch pattern used on the Akudo pieces is perfect for fingerless gloves, and it sort of has a hand knit look about it, not to mention how warm they would be. I experimented a little and came up with something I'm really happy with. I can't wait to start wearing mine.

Kaima Convertible Shrug

I’m finishing up the writing portion of my most recent designs, the Kaima Convertible Shrug (thanks again Jane for allowing me to use your fabulous photos). Testing for this is coming to a close as well, should be getting the final comments in a day or so. I’ve worked this pattern three times, just finished the last a few hours ago. This was the first time that I had 3 patterns being tested simultaneously, so I’ve felt very busy in the last few weeks. Very inspired as well…anticipating the changing of the seasons. Fall being my favorite. There are a few other designs that have at least made it to my notebook, so perhaps there will be a few new additions to the collection.

Akudo Slouchy Toque Hat

I've been extremely busy lately...but always manage to get some crocheting in, especially this time of year. This is the Akudo Slouchy Toque Hat which is nearing the end of the testing process now. I'm thinking that a complimenting neckwarmer is needed to finish this off. I don't usually work on so many projects at once...there's another separate project that is nearly done being written up that I hope to start having tested by next weekend also, and yet another garment that's waiting also partially written that I need to revisit. The fall weather will be upon us in weeks, although it hasn't felt like this extreme heat will be relenting any time soon. This item will be a great one to give as gifts, especially for those who live in cold climates, this hat will be warm and snuggly.

Parcels

How often do you get a (pleasant) surprise in the mail? I happen to be a HUGE fan of parcels, and admit that I like ordering things for myself online so that it feels like I'm getting a little present in the mail. I even try to order more than one thing at a time so that when they arrive, I'm not quite sure what it is that I'm opening. Anyways, I did happen to get an ACTUAL surprise on the 8th. I ordered some rayon boucle cone yarn online from a seller I've been using for years. I was looking for a specific yarn that I was sure I wouldn't be able to find again and had just used the last of my own. When it arrived in the mail, not only was it a perfect match, but she had put an extra cone of the yarn in the box as well! That made my day, almost as much as the second package that arrived that day. I was only expecting one package, and my husband was also expecting one. So to my surprise, he tells me they are BOTH for me. I open it and realize it's the hat I submitted to the Vanna White Knit & Crochet Contest. I'd already gone to the site and didn't see my name or my project anywhere as one of the big prize winners. So why had they contacted me to send in the hat, right? Well, they returned the hat along with a few goodies, I HAD actually been a finalist and won a prize which included a Michael's gift card. When I entered the contest it was almost too late and I thought maybe it was a design contest rather than the use of Vanna's yarn. Anyone could have submitted the hat using my pattern. But it was one of my best sellers so I submitted it anyway. I'm not a total loser after all I guess. I'm planning on entering the contest next time, hopefully I'll be more prepared and have a really creative entry.

Emume Bolero - Cropped Version

Finally done with the Emume (ee-moo-may...meaning "Celebration or festivity" in Igbo) bolero pattern. The photo is of the cropped length which is included in the pattern along with lots of pictures. This is the first time I tried testing on Ravelry through the free pattern testers group I recently joined: http://www.ravelry.com/groups/free-pattern-testers. I love how organized this group was and immediately joined. I received such good feedback from my 5 testers and each of them has linked their Ravelry project page to the pattern which is available now on Ravelry and through my Etsy shop. My mother's birthday is on Friday and I think I'm giving her one with one of William's handmade buttons on it. I'll definitely be using this group again to test my next shrug pattern, which is completed, although the pattern is not written out yet. I'm taking a few days off work to relax so I'm hoping to have it written out soon and get the testing process under way.

Beautiful Waist of Time

So I get home from work last night to a starving husband, eager for me to prepare his “Sunday dinner” (which to his disappointment didn’t happen on Sunday because we ate leftovers from Saturday night’s dinner). Anyways, so I made a beeline home to get started on it, already knowing that dinner would be late that night because of all the prep that needed to be done. He was so excited about dinner that he told me he hadn’t eaten ALL DAY and that he “dreamed” about it, so I couldn’t let him down again, right? So we’re in the garage and I just happened to ask about the latest PILE of wood I see. His eyes light up and he enthusiastically starts telling me about the wood, telling me about the tree it came from, pointing out little nuances in the wood grain and showing me his works in progress using the wood. He then starts showing me other wood in yet ANOTHER PILE that I hadn’t even noticed...uh, there's A LOT of wood in the garage, where did it all come from? I’m amazed at how much he knows about each type wood and listen intently as he struts around pointing this out and that out, showing me what he’s working on and telling what his plans are for other pieces of wood, his workshop, etc. Before I knew it, an hour had passed and I had to get cracking on dinner before it was midnight…but how could I interrupt him...he couldn't be more enthralled, and I mean, he was showing me his wood and we were sharing a moment. Until I mentioned dinner and he stopped on a dime as if I was sitting around wasting time.

Before too long though, he was upstairs, keeping me company in the kitchen putting some cufflinks together at the table and playing the latest cd from The Roots (AWESOME CD!) for me and I was leaning up against the countertop crocheting away while the food was in the oven. We both eventually had to remark on how we were both “working” at that moment and how nice it was to both be at home, listening to great music, relaxing while we "worked" creatively...amazing.

Emume Bolero

Just finished my second Emume (ee-moo-may) bolero, with one of William's buttons http://www.oruaka.etsy.com/. Emume means Celebration or festivity in Igbo. Still working on the pattern which is still being tested. I really want to keep this one for myself, the pictures don't show the rich color or beautiful drape. I was sad to wind the last of it off the cone. I'm doubtful that I'll find more of it. There's enough to maybe make a nice scarf for myself to remember it by.

Bobble Pillow Duvet

Finally finished this project...the bobble pillow duvet. It took MUCH longer than I had anticipated, I've never worked such a highly textured solid stitch before. It also took a lot more yarn than I thought it would, the bobbles are quite pronounced. It turned out better than I thought it would, thanks to those great buttons I had William to make especially for this project. I don't know if it looks better in the living room or bedroom...it's a great compliment to the wood furniture so I know I'll need at least one or two more. I'm loving having such a great button source in my own home! I love it when William is all excited about a new piece of wood and then shows me a button or jewelry that he's made out of it. He has to keep reminding me that I can't have EVERYTHING. I've been good though...only when the current project needs it, and then it's really whatever I want...which is quite inspiring and now there are many ideas that are actually making it to paper right now, so hopefully more new patterns soon.

Enjoying the day off...it has been a very relaxing one too. Great end to my birthday weekend. William was busy creating today, as was I, and decided to start a small project for myself. Well, this project turned out to take much longer than I had anticipated, but it is looking better than I imagined so I'm pressing on. Foundation Chain 52
Row 1 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each stitch across.
Row 2-50 Ch 3 and turn, 1 hdc in back loop of next stitch and each stitch across to end of row.

• Turn garment wrong side facing you and fold.
• Join using a slip stitch through both edges.
• Fasten Off
• Using a tapestry needle, thread a long length of yarn through and tie at the end (as if you will be sewing with two strands).
• At top of hat, weave tapestry needle and yarn through ch 3 rows and pull tight to close.
• Tie off and weave in the ends.

Shakara Shrug

This is the latest design, inspired by a knit shrug that I saw. This project only took a few hours to complete and I love the way it turned out. Searched for a crochet version of this shrug and couldn't find anything so I took a break from the giant granny square blanket I'm working on as a Christmas gift (a photo of the blanket...and Baloo below).

On another note...I talked William into opening his own Etsy shop a few weeks ago. I am so impressed with William. I ordered some wood branch buttons a little over a year ago and ended up putting them away and sorta forgot about them until recently. So I started working on a new pattern and asked him if he thought he could make some buttons for me since the ones I had were a little more unusually shaped and I wanted just basic branch buttons. He seemed very interested in the challenge and went totally gung ho into it, even learning more about trees in general and identifying the different types of trees I didn't even know existed in my own backyard.

Antonio's Sacred Hat/Cowl

I had a special request from Antonio who had recently lost one of his favorite hats which was given to him by a friend. Antonio referred to this hat as “The Sacred Hat”. He and his friend searched and could not find a replacement anywhere. Somehow, he stumbled across my Etsy shop and saw my Tugharia drawstring hat/cowl and asked if I could create one similar but to look more like his “Sacred” hat. He had one sole photo of himself wearing the hat which he sent me. I just loved the photo…I could tell how much the he loved the hat and got a good idea of how to make one very similar, so I eagerly took on the challenge and created the Nso (which means “Sacred” in Igbo).

A new year...a new design. I'm hoping to keep creating a few more designs this year. More than I did last year. Could a crochet book be in the future? Possibly. That's the ultimate goal with the patterns at this point. I created this to enter it in a crochet contest. I'm realizing more, it's not really about the pattern, it's more about the finished product and how creative you interpretation is on really ANY pattern, it doesn't even have to be your own.

Anyways, back to the Tugharia (Too-har-ee-a) which is Igbo for "Change position". Which is exactly what this garment does. It can be worn as a hat or a cowl...very comfortable and snuggly either way. The stitch pattern creates almost chunky knit quality...like a warm thich sweater. I don't know whether I like it cinched at the top neatly or with a "sack" closure. I'm working on the fingerless gloves to match. Actually, last night I finished a mitten with the convertible thumb so that you can still navigate on your touch screen devices without taking the mitten off. I liked it alright, but I think I like the fingerless gloves better.

Bottletree Craft Bazaar

Okay, so I may not be the most dedicated blogger…but I’m going to work on it this decade. I will say that I have been very busy stitching lately. The Kelechi hat seems to be my best seller at the moment along with the Ziela cowl. I sold quite a few at the Bottletree Craft Bazaar on December 5th. This was a great event, and I liked it better than the Butterbean Festival which was my first time setting up a booth. I think this decision weighs greatly on the fact that this event was indoors. It was also freezing that day…it had actually snowed the night before. I was only able to set up one table, but it was worth the $10 to do so. I’m already looking at doing a few more next fall/winter since I have had a little bit of experience with it now and I’m pretty much ready to set up.

I’m planning on entering the Vanna White crochet contest as well. The deadline is next month and I have no idea what I’m going to enter. The rules say that I can enter a pattern that has already been written, so I’m considering that as a last resort. I’d like to come up with something new though…although filling order right now eats up most of my crocheting time. I’m setting aside the spring/summer months to try to develop a few new patterns since I’m sure the demand will decrease at that time.

An actual update...I'm really going to try to do this more often, but we'll see how that goes. The festival that I was preparing for was okay...it rained ALL DAY with the exception of a few hours. I was miserable, jeans soaked and the booths all seems to be right on top of a river of water. Although I did sell enough to make my booth rental fees back, so it wasn't a complete waste, and I handed out a lot of cards. I ended up throwing my tent away after the event, I will NEVER deal with another one of those "put the poles together" types again!

Anyway...I've been crocheting like mad lately. Sales are starting to pick up a little on Etsy as the cooler weather approaches. Last Saturday it rained all day, so I sat out on the deck, listening to an audiobook (Twilight) and working on my latest project, the Ejitu Slouchy Cape Shrug. This design is inspired by the Dinky Cape created by Keep and Share (SHOP: www.keepandshare.etsy.com). This was a knit pattern, so I created a crochet version and still working on the pattern which is about 97% done now, just having trouble with the PDF conversion, something weird is going on with my diagrams.

One Month Countdown Begins

There is a good reason why I haven't updated this blog in a while. I've been crocheting like mad! And preparing for my first booth at a local festival. It's on september the 5th, so I've got about a month left. There are still so many things that I need to do to get ready, including finalizing most of the displays. There are so many ideas going around in my head, I'll be glad when everything is done already. The photo is of my scrapbooking desk covered in items I plan to sell. I don't think I've ever done so much crocheting during the summer months, and there is still so much crocheting I want to get done.

Orlando Vacation

Size J hook

STITCH NOTE:

Amarachi Scarf

This is my latest scarf design. Amarachi is Igbo for "God's grace". I'm having fun making these up in different yarns right now. The Stitch pattern is so pretty and it drapes so nicely when you use a lightweight yarn. And super long, as opposed to the scarflettes and cowls I have been making. Definitely more traditional. Hoping these will do good at the fairs this fall.

I spent many hours this weekend putting together this Kooba inspired purse and writing out a bulk of the pattern. I felted the bag and I'm pretty happy with the result, but not sure about the closure. This was my second attempt at the purse, and I think I have it where I want it now. Theclay polymer buttons now, but before I compromise the bag and cut a buttonhole, I'm going to check some snap fasteners.

Chunky Ribbed Scarflette

Yeah, that's right! Another post this year! I'm still busy crocheting and designing. I've got two non-scarf projects that I'm working on, but it's getting more difficult to find the time to get it all done with having custom orders for these scarves. There's a purse I want to get finished, I actually created a prototype which I felted, and it shrunk more in length rather than width when I felted it. I don't know if it's the wool I used or not, but at least now I know which direction I need to go in to make it more of what I had in mind. Also, I want to finish a sweater...not sure if I want it to be a cardigan or a tunic. I guess I need to decide since I've got a pretty good start on it already.

It's been a while...I know, but I have been crocheting, just not blogging. Decided that I would go ahead and post a few of my latest creations and announce that my patterns are once again available, but through Etsy. My shop is MsSunflwr.etsy.com

This is my first attempt at making a dress, it's for my sister's baby who is due in a couple of weeks. I also made a matching hat (not pictured).

This is the Chioma Scarflette made from Caron Simply Soft yarn.

This is an unnamed scarflette...I will more than likely use an Igbo name (my husband's native language). I used a chunky boucle yarn on this one. The pattern has not been written out yet, I just finished this one over the weekend.

This last one is also unnamed and the pattern hasn't been written out yet, I just finished this one last night and used handmade clay polymer toggle buttons.

Advanced Beginner

Size J Hook

Approx 2-7 oz skeins of a sport weight yarn yarn, just be sure to use TWO STRANDS throughout, it makes the bag stronger. (Bag pictured used two thin chenille yarns held together , I used two small cake skeins from a yarn winder)

Safety pins
Yarn darning needle
Large metal fastener (Try hardware stores)
Metal ring. (Try hardware stores)

USING TWO STRANDS OF YARN THROUGHOUT

BODY OF BAG
Chain 51 (multiple of 8 plus 3).

FOUNDATION ROW 1: 1 dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch to end. Ch 2, turn

ROW 1: *yo, insert hook from front to back to front around next dc and draw up a loop, yo and through 2 loops twice (front post double crochet=fpdc); work fpdc around next 3 dc; yo, insert hook from back to front to back (back post double crochet-=bpdc) around each of next 4 dc; repeat from * ending 1 hdc in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

ROW 2 and 3: Repeat Row 1

ROW 4: *1 bpdc around each of next 4 dc; 1 fpdc around each of next 4 dc; repeat from *, ending1 hdc in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.

ROW 5 and 6: Repeat Row 4.

You will repeat from Row 1 for pattern throughout. So at this point we have 2 pattern rows where the fpdc and bpdc create opposing basket weave pattern. Continue until you have approximately 19 pattern rows (8 pattern rows will be the front and back of the bag, while 3 will form the bottom of the bag).

GUSSET/STRAP
The gusset & strap is worked as one piece.

Ch 12. Repeat pattern for approximately 30 pattern rows.

FASTENER STRAP

Ch 7.

ROW 1: dc in4th ch from hook to end. Ch 3 and turn.
ROW 2-9: dc in next stitch to end.
Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY:

Using safety pins. Pin gusset (matching up pat rows) to body of bag with right side facing you.

You will stitch the gussets to the body of the bag beginning from the top of the body of the bag around to the other side using a sc on the right side facing you. This creates a pronounced seam.

Fold the sides of the strap up and together (as if forming a triangle with the opening at the top). From one end to the other, create a seam using a sc (be sure to stitch across first pattern rows of each side of bag to bring in the upper sides of the bag together. The front side of bag and back side of bag stitched together at the very tip top of the bag on both sides.).

Attach fastener strap to back of bag using a whip stitch and yarn darning needle.

Loop strap through opening of fastener and attach using a whip stitch and yarn darning needle.

Attach ring to purse (try to center it in a pattern and whip stitch in upper right, lower right, upper left and lower left of ring to leave the top of the ring free for the fastener.

An actual update!

Yes, I decided what better time to update the blog. It's been forever since I've blogged, I know...but there were good reasons and I'll spare you the rant. First things first, I did finish the "mystery project". I still haven't named it because I'm not really sure what I think of it. It's made with 2 thin strands of chenille crocheted together in a basketweave stitch. It was inspired by a Dooney & Burke bag I saw in W magazine.

First Crochet Projects Completed

I know it's been a while since I blogged, I've been extremely busy at work preparing for hearings back to back. Ordra and her mother did make it back by my house for a follow up crochet lesson weekend before last. It was a very relaxed afternoon. I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw the work they had both put into their projects. They had learned so much about going to the end of the rows and tension, their stitches had gotten so uniform, I knew they had both gotten into a flow. Ms. Smith, through trial and error, had learned how to decrease and made a really innovative stair step design to the front flap of her purse. I taught them how to sew up the seams and we made a very long chain stitch using 3 strands of yarn and weaved them through the purses. They (including my fiance) were very excited to put the purses in the washer. They were amazed at how quickly the size and texture completely changed. Ordra's bag was really cool and had a sort of 70's vibe in my opinion. I loved her choice of colors. She laughed at her photo and jokingly said not to use her photo, but just to be careful, I'll just show you her bag. (I know how I'd feel, I rarely ecen post photos of myself here). The mystery project is still sitting in a chair. I'll finish it up I promise, but the pay-per-view fight is tomorrow and I'll have a housefull. But soon.

FROGGING

Okay, I've been all over the place with crafting. I did manage to get the mystery item completed, only now I'll have to frog part of it and try something else, I'm just not happy with it, but it shouldn't take long. I hate frogging though. I've made about 4 more hypertufa containers that came out really nicely (I'll have to post a picture from home later). My neice had a birthday party and I was the designated craft person, although the weather did not permit us to do that, we were really trying to get the party over with (dealing with approaching storm and lots of wind). I was prepared though, we were going to make polymer clay pens and/or keychains. I practiced the night before and ended up making 3 of each, they're kinda cool. I've got a pair of trousers that I started sewing, only I'm completely confused when it comes to the interfacing of the waistband. And of course I've been trying to do some gardening, preparing my beds and getting the yard in shape. I don't want to be the one to bring down the neighborhood.

Hypertufa

I wanted to share a photo of my first hypertufa project. I know I'll make more now that I've done this one...I love the way this turned out. It's a pretty big container, I used a small recycle bin as the "mold". It will take about 3 weeks before I can use it, it's going to cure outside for about 3 weeks. I started an indoor greenhouse and the sprouts are coming in strong and about ready to be planted. We had some really cool weather today, near freezing, which isn't at all how it's been for the past few weeks. It's supposed to stay that way at least through the weekend, so I've brought them all in.

So...what's going on in the crochet design world? I'm really close to finishing a project...just indecisive about one small detail. I've about made up my mind on what I'm about to do on it so hopefully I'll finish it up so I can post a pic of the finished product. So far, I'm really happy with the way it's turning out.

Successful Teaching

Here are some photos from last weekend. I taught Ordra and her mother how to crochet, they are creating their first chain stitches. I had expected one more, but she couldn't make it. I explained how learning to hold the hook and yarn was the hardest part of learning to crochet. Both of them seemed to pick it up pretty quickly. We worked on an easy wool purse done entirely in half double crochets. I thought the repetition of the stitch would be a good way to get comfortable with crocheting and they both wanted to make a purse. So hopefully they'll be so pleased with their finished product that they'll keep on crocheting and learning more about the craft. Ordra even got comfortable enough that she was able to use her cell phone while crocheting. Pandora (who has been crocheting for years...she is working on a hat in the photo) and I got a laugh out of that.

Has it been nearly a month since my last entry??? Wow, I have been totally immersed in yarn though, getting through my second Stained Glass Window Afghan (which has already sold). Only one (or two...not sure) more panels to go now. I've got an order for two more, so that will really help with the stash busting efforts and a little extra cash towards wedding expenses. I must admit, the afghans are really amazing with novelty yarns, I want to make myself another and maybe donate my existing one. I will probably be getting a king sized bed eventually (went shopping for some this weekend in Atlanta), so I am lacking bedding. I'm completely covered with orders right now and I'd like to see a new project in the works soon. I've still got this picture of a dress in my head and I'd like to get it completed by spring...stemming from the incomplete skirt pattern I started last summer and never finished.

Being sick gave me plenty of down time to get some crocheting done. I'm feeling much better now, and it looks like its back to work tomorrow. I did manage to get my sixth panel done today though. This is one of those great patterns where you can pretty much feel your way through the easy stitching...making it easier to watch t.v. at the same time. Just a simple "v" stitch which is one of my favorites. I must admit, although this is my third time doing this pattern, I've always hated the border. Why didn't I do something slightly a little different before joining already? Slightly more, substantial? Well, I've still got plenty of yarn left and it's a quick pattern... maybe I'll make another. I'm not planning on keeping it anyways, but I do like how the different textures look together.

I had some time (while nursing a cold) to get some crocheting done today. I got the fourth panel done today. I haven't started on the 5th yet, instead I opted for a cat nap with Baloo on the couch. I may take a little break from the project for tonight...but knowing me, I probably will pick up the hook at some point this evening.

Here it is, the work in progress. This will be the third time I've done this pattern. I'm straying from the pattern a bit and making wider and longer panels. I'm also using chocolate brown for the trim rather than black and using different types of yarns with different textures.

Happy New Year! Just a quick post while I'm at work. The holidays were very nice for me. Here's a photo of Journey and Joshua sporting the hat and scarf sets I made for them...I ended up making 7 sets for neices/nephews total in some really super soft yarn that I got from Hobby Lobby. I also made about 18 scarves for sale (I wished I'd made more) and sold all (11 @ $20 and the rest at $15). I'm still actually crocheting (even after Christmas)...and decided to try a scrap afghan and see how it does on Ebay....maybe a stained glass window blanket or something...not decided. Oh...and I also got the MICROSOFT ZUNE...for any of you who were curious about it, I think it's AWESOME! Especially for music lovers wo can spend some serious money on cds....save your money and get the ZUNE PASS...it's perfect and "all you can eat" music for one monthly fee. And....(drum roll please)...I also got ENGAGED....that's right, William actually proposed on Christmas morning. Don't even ask me about "the date" it's still undecided and we're leaning towards just eloping.

I LOVE felting! Even William was amazed at the process. I've made two more bags that I plan to give as gifts. I've been terribly busy crocheting lately...practically every evening. Christmas is in a few days and I've got a list of mostly hats and scarves to complete before then...probably a couple more purses if I can make the time, and then a felted purse for myself. Here are the other two. I did write out a simple pattern and would love to post it here if someone could help me posting a pdf file here.

First Felted Purse

I did it, my first real felted project, outside of the little mp3 case holder I made, but that yarn felted differently since it was thick and thin in. I decided to try my hand at making a purse for myself after seeing a woman’s green felted bag in Michael’s. I also needed a break from the never-ending scarves that I’ve been making to sell and for Christmas presents (I’ll have to post photos of the beret and scarf set I’m making for the neices). Anyways, back to the purse, I don’t know why I doubted that this would felt. In my opinion, this felt like some plain ol’ regular red heart yarn to me, so needless to say, I had my doubts on whether or not it would even felt. I used half double crochets for the entire purse and made the handles with 3 strands of yarn and just made a really long chain stitch, wove it through and tied it in a semi-neat knot on the gusset. You have no idea how surprised I was when the wash cycle was done and I took it out, I actually gasped out loud. Next time I’ll add a little pocket on the gusset for a cell phone and maybe one on the inside, and also some sort of toggle closure, but I think I can still add this.. I don’t plan on lining it. I absolutely love the way it turned out and can’t wait to get my hands on more wool.

I am actually taking a break from crocheting...crocheting what you ask...scarves of course...tons of them. I have several orders for scarves from work, and possibly a large one coming in from a friend's college classmates (we'll see how that pans out...hopefully good, I could use the extra money this time of year).

Today was pretty nice, I only worked three hours, got my Christmas bonus and went shopping for a few items to make Thanksgiving dinner for me and William. Of course, I'll do the big dinner tomorrow with family, but I decided to cook my own dinner on Friday. My menu includes: Apricot-Glazed Cornish Hens; Cornbread Dressing, Cranberry sauce; Macaroni and Cheese; Carmelized Brussels Sprouts with Sunflowers (don't gag thinking about it, we both love brussels anyway);Yeast rolls; Collard Greens; Yam casserole; Cherry congealed salad and Pecan pie bars. Just typing that I'm thinking that's a lot for me and William, but it's a long weekend so I'm sure it'll be fine. I had to get recipes for just about everything. That tells you how often I cook from scatch.

Before I stray too long, I decided to post while I was browsing other blogs. I'm fighting to type right now because Baloo is nudging my hands, begging for affection, so bear with me. I'm wondering if anyone even reads this thing, so I'll feel free to ramble for a sec.

I can't believe it's already November and I haven't started crocheting any gifts. I just have a few hat and scarf sets to make, and maybe a purse or three. I am inspired by a lot of designer purses I see in magazines. They are inspiring me to create a design for one, I'd really like it to be felted also. Who knows, I might get a gift out of it that I don't have to pay for! I'm just a bit intimidated by wool and the sizing issue when it comes to felting. And why is it so expensive? I'm afraid of doing hours of work, tossing it in the washer and coming out with something suitable for a doll. I'd feel really ripped off. I guess that's where "gauge" must come in (yikes).

Anyways...I think I'll go and try to decide on some yarn for that purse I was talking about...or maybe for a scarf.

Wow, two posts in a week, I’m on a roll. Decided to share a photo of a project I did a couple of months ago. I needed a little cozy for my mp3 player since I toss it in my purse daily and take it to work with me. I saw some Ipod Nano knit cozies and thought they were really cute. For those of us who don’t have an Ipod, you know that it is nearly impossible to find cool accessories for your mp3 player. So I tried my hand at it…this was also my first attempt at felting. I really lucked out and the little case came out exactly the right size that I needed. I only need to add a little button, but seeing as though its been a couple months, I’m sure you think that button is never gonna make it on the cozy. I used some wool yarn that someone sent me, it was thick and thin yarn so I was curious to see how that would felt…it has a very interesting texture to it, sort of thin and lacy in spots and thick in others, and serves it purpose well with all the junk in my purse.

Yoga / Pilates Mat Bag

I decided to get in gear and start working out regularly (Cardio & Pilates)...This is week 3 and I'm down 5 pounds. I am really enjoying Pilates and had my first class in public last week. Can't wait to go back today. I cringe at the thought of using a public mat though, I know how sweaty I was after finishing step and heading straight into Pilates (as more than half of the class did). I just don't want to lie there sweaty on top of someone else's sweat, but I needed a yoga mat bag to carry mine in from home. So, why not try to make one? And I did. I am so thrilled with how it came out. After a couple of failed attempts to make the sleeve (which is essentially what it is)...I decided to crochet it in long rows rather than in the round. For some reason, it seemed to be too wide and sloppy looking the other way. I made a drawstring closure which also serves as the shoulder strap. The only thing I would do differently is to line it, it doesn't slide in very easily and I have to pull the bag over the mat like a sock. I plan to write the pattern up and post it (a freebie since it's so simple) if anyone is interested in making their own. All you do is crochet a circle (for the bottom of the bag) just round enough and set it aside....then crochet a chain a little longer than the length of the mat, hdc in each stitch across until it easily wraps around the mat. I then crocheted the seam with a sl stitch and turned it inside out so the seam wouldn't show. When I crocheted the circle to the bottom of the sleeve, I did so on the right side of the work so that the seam would show and give the bottom of the bag more shape. With 4 strands of yarn together, I made a really long chain stitch, weaved in it through the opening and tied it in a secure opening near the side seam securely. And ta-da, you're done! I still may line it, this should be very fast and simple to do. The entire bag is crochet with two strands held together and crocheting in the front of the stitch only throughout, this will give you a ribbed effect.This bag would make a great gift too.

TGIF! I found a home for the girl puppy and she was picked up last night. Her new name is “LOLA”, she has a wonderful new home where she will be an inside dog and have two boys ages 7 and 10. So needless to say I am thrilled. The little boy that we were calling “OBELE” turned up missing Monday morning. I am 99% sure that some teenager that I saw riding his bike took him. I was outside trying to get a good photo of the pups on Sunday night when I saw him riding his bike by my house. I asked him if he know of anyone who wanted a free puppy, at the time he didn’t but he came back and asked what kind they were, so I went into the whole spill about how I didn’t know and that they were left in my yard and that I was caring for them on my screened in deck (so he knew where they were). The next morning he was gone. I am just hoping that he has a good home too. I was really disturbed that someone would come creeping into my backyard (which is unlit) at night and just take the dog, I mean, I DID say they were free, he didn’t have to steal him!

What a weekend!

Friday morning, just before heading out to work, I was pushing the garbage to the curb when I discovered that someone had left two puppies (a boy and girl) in my yard. They were really small, probably barely 6 weeks old and damp from the dew in the grass. One was clearly a runt and short haired, he looks like a jet black chihuha (sp). His ribs were showing and he looked up at me and then layed his head down in the grass. I knew I had to help him fast, all I could imagine was seeing him in the same spot when I got home, only not breathing. The other was a bit healthier, a bit larger, but still tiny and also jet black but long haired. She was looking up at me, sitting up. They both have huge puppy dog eyes (of course), and both jet black. I put them in a cardboard box and took them to my deck (screened in and covered)...at least they would be somewhat protected from the elements. All I had on hand that I thought they could eat was some soft cat food. THEY INHALED IT! They were dehydrated as well, so I made sure to leave them with water to drink and layed a towel down after drying them off with it.

What makes me angry about the situation is that I'm sure that someone probably just placed them in my yard and shirked their responsibility completely. I mean, have your pets spayed or neutered already if you're ready to deal with the possibility of puppies! Now I feel it's my responsibilty to care for these puppies and find them a home. On the other hand, I feel like its a test, divine intervention which completely makes sense to me on a personal level. This is a huge responsibility that I didn't ask for. I'm getting the run-around from the Humane Society and Animial, various animal hospitals...basically, this is my responsibility and I don't have the heart to abandon these babies. They didn't ask for this in the few weeks of their existence (couldnt' be more than 5-6 weeks) and their eyes have been thanking me for saving their lives, I know they're grateful, especially the runt, I'm sure I saved his life, he wouldn't have made it. In a way, I'm glad they have each other, the little one wouldn't have made it without the girl. But in the last couple of day, I am noticing some weight gain on him, I was concerned about it, but he's definately gained a little weight just since Friday and I know he'll be alright as long as someone is caring for him.

I took a few photos and plan on sending a company wide email to try and find them a home. I'm sure they're a small breed, they have tiny little paws. William and I have been calling the little one "OBELE" (Oh-be-le) which means little in Igbo, William's Nigerian tribe language. I may actually end up keeping him if I can't find him a home, but I'm so afraid of Baloo's reaction to him and if that will work with trying to housebreak a puppy and dealing with Baloo peeing on the futon in rebellion...remember he starting doing that after two cats came to live with us along with a friend for two months. He hasn't been the same since, we have "incidents" every now and then. He's heard them only, they've been out on the deck and I'm trying not to get too attached. I go out there a few times just to pet them a bit (which they love) so they won't be afraid of human interaction. I took them to a friends house Saturday afternoon and they were held and petted all afternoon and were so sweet (I may have a home for the girl...keep your fingers crossed).

If you're reading this, please send out a little prayer for me that I find good homes for these puppies.

Yes, believe it! A crochet-related blog entry! I actually picked up the dusty crochet hook and COMPLETED an original project! I completed it Sunday night and just finished writing the pattern out (for the most part) last night. It works up pretty quickly. I like the yarn I used, which is some I purchased on Ebay on the cone, it feels light and drapey, perfect for over a sundress or with jeans. Thanks Deanna for modeling it for me.

Just sitting here at work eating lunch and waiting on my boss to return so we can file a brief and hopefully, leave early today. Our office is closing at 3:00 because they are blocking the streets off around us for CITY STAGES the big music festival here in Birmingham. Only a few of the bands seem to appeal to me, not worth the ticket prices and the heat for me though. My fun-filled weekend plans include babysitting (my sister is on a cruise) my neices and nephew. They are always so excited when they get to come over, and tonight they get to spend the night. So we're going to hit Blockbuster Video and maybe Pizza Hut tonight and tomorrow they are excited about getting to run in my sprinklers (I needed to water the grass anyways).

Just got the brief, ready to file, I might just be outta here!

Hooked on Gardening???

So, this is what she's been up to instead of crocheting and designing patterns. I can blame the yardwork to a certain extent. This is the bed I made in the backyard a few weeks ago, it's amazing how much growth I have already compared to this photo. I find myself getting more into the gardening thing now and actually know the names of certain plants! I've even picked up an earthworm (not with my bare hands of course)! My mother came by (she has an amazing green thumb) and she was quite impressed with my choice of plants, the fact that they were planted in the correct conditions and just how the rocks turned out around the bed, and isn't that what's its really about anyways, the approval of our mothers...just kidding, but it did make me feel good.

I haven't completely abandoned crochet though. I saw a shrug that inspired me to pick up my hook and yarn last night and I'm eager to get home to work on it (after watering the plants). I brought it in to work with me hoping to steal a few minutes and get a few rows done. So far, it's still sitting in the bag next to me. I should take a photo and give you a sneak peek.

Stress = Closeness?

Well, in this case, a stressful situation did actually bring me and William closer. He was supposed to fly out on Cinco de Mayo headed towards Nigeria for a short while (business not pleasure). William was flying out of Atlanta which is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. Long story short, he missed his plane and his rental car was impounded! He rented a second car and came home to get me. We are both severely navigationally challenged and driving in Atlanta can be hectic and extremely confusing, especially for someone with this type of challenge afflicting them. WE DID IT THOUGH....got to the police station, obtained the release, then made it to the place where the cars are kept (which wasn't that close by), and then back to the airport to turn in one of the cars. I had to keep reminding myself how I would want someone to act if I were in that situation so I tried to sooth his nerves even though mine were shot...in turn, he did the same for me, we really had to lean on each other and it seemed to bring us so close. I ended up getting us a hotel room and we went out to dinner to unwind after what seemed an entire Saturday of stress. We had planned on getting up and going to Six Flaggs before heading back to Birmingham, but it was raining. So we had a leisurely breakfast and hit the road. He'll be leaving on Wednesday and I'm planning on driving him this time to see him off. But I don't think I've felt closer to him since we've gotten back together. It's nice knowing that someone genuinely has your back. I'm sure he knows I have his too.

I've been in my house almost 2 years now without a dining room table and chairs, a co-worker sold me this nice antique set (the leaves are not in, but imagine that there are 2 and this table can seat about 8 people) for a whopping $150. I couldn't pass that up, even if I decided to sell it myself, I know I can get more than that for it. I love it though!

Crooked Knitting

Most times when I try to knit, I end up inadvertently increasing or decreasing if I am not sure to count each stitch after each row. But I noticed I usually do this with Red Heart Symphony yarn, it's a challenge for me to knit with, but I love crocheting with it. Good thing this is just for my freeform wall hanging, so I'm not too discouraged.

Yeah, I know...it's been forever since I blogged. I guess I haven't really wanted to post everything that has been happening with me since there is a reader in particular that I am especially aware of now, so now it seems that my words are carefully chosen.

Me and William have once again decided to get back together. This was not an easy decision for me. I truly had moved on...remember Kelvin? Well, I should have know from him misrepresenting himself from the start that he was a shadey person. He continued to be somewhat deceitful, and it was making me mad that he thought I was so dumb that I wouldn't see it, or if I saw it, I would just dismiss it....I THINK NOT. Not to sound callous, but let's just call it like it is, he served his purpose...REBOUND BOYFRIEND! Thanks! William however has really been spending a lot of time convincing me that I am the one for him and that he's ready to make a real committment to me. Call me crazy, but I'm starting to believe him, he's never done as much talking as he has now and he's really opening up in a way that I've never seen him before.

I haven't been particulary crafty lately...a little crocheting....a little knitting (and I do mean very little). I am inspired though to create a dress or skirt and actually got to work on it a little yesterday in the waiting room of the doctor's office. I've got to go back tomorrow for one more test...it seems that I have a 2.9 cm cyst on an ovary. Hopefully they will just remove it and that will be that!

Grandma called me when I got home yesterday asking if I had had a chance to make the red hat she asked me for last week. Well, it had completely slipped my mind and I felt horrible. I asked her when she needed it and she said Wednesday for a Valentines dance she was going to at a senior's center. So I hung up the phone, went to my yarn stash and came across some TLC Amore yarn in two shades of red and frantically went to work making the tam. About 1 1/2 hours after that, I went to work on a scarf to match and to make myself feel better about forgetting the hat in the first place. I took it by her place after work and she LOVED it, it looked so cute on her, perfect fit and everything. My mother, who had been over the night she called and learned I had forgotten, went by and saw the set. She felt compelled to call since I'm sure she talked about me not making the hat in the first place. She was shocked that I had made time to make the set for her and she said she loved the yarn and colors (that'll teach you to talk about people mom!).

First of all, thanks Deneen for sending me the wonderful shawl. The photos do not do it justice. I really like the yarn you chose, it's so soft and the colors are so funky. It's funny that when it arrived (Saturday), it went perfectly with what I was wearing so I wore it for the rest of the day. It fits perfectly, I love it.

Deneen also sent the coolest little orange (I love orange) pouch, that rolls out and had some really nice stitch markers in it. Brilliant idea Deneen, so convenient!

I finally broke down and went to see an eye doctor on Saturday morning. It has been quite a while since I've had my vision checked, and I've been having some problems. Well, it looks like I should be wearing glasses...all the time now! I know this is going to take some getting used to. I'll probably feel very self conscious at first, like I"m wearing a costume or something. I'm eager to get my glasses to see if I really see better though, that'll be nice.

The weatherman is talking of the chance of wintery weather for tomorrow morning. I know that tomorrow will be a very hectic day, we've got a deadline at work, and I know that it'll probably just blow over my area as usual and I'll be making that familiar Monday morning drive tomorrow, but the kid in me is hoping I'll wake up to snow on the ground and the morning news team announcing closings. I'm going to put out some positive wintry thoughts anyways.

I had my sister, Carolyn, Sindy and Sugar over last night for a girls night in. It was cold and raining and perfect for something like this. I've got a slight headache now from last night, all the laughter, wine and good food. I'm definately moving slowly this morning. I thought about going to the track, but it is bitter cold out there and windy, so perhaps I'll get motivated enough to do some sort of exercise inside today besides crocheting and changing the chanels. I've been working on a sweater for myself...well working on seems the wrong way to describe it since it's been sitting in my room untouched all week. I'm going to try to get to it this weekend so I'll actually have a crochet post with photos. It is coming along nicely though.

Libby's Granny Sweater

I made this sweater for my neices and nephew's dog...Libby a couple of days before Christmas. I made it out of some squares that I already had done, just stitched them together and I think it came out nicely. Libby seems to like it and didn't protest at all. The Christmas Eve party was a huge sucess, both from the adults and the children. I actually picked up my knitting needles today (so glad to get a day to just relax). I'm not sure what I'm making yet, just cast on about 25 stitches.

We made a blanket out of Bernat Boucle for her when she was expecting their first child and she told us that her husband is always under that blanket, so we made a binky for him too.

I finally found the brown ribbon to put on this purse for my friend Camille. It's similar to the smaller one I made earlier, but I used a cable-like stitch and love the way it turned out. I also like it with the flower pin.

Yes, I actually completed another design, and I am quite pleased with this one. I really want to keep her, but I made it for a friend who will be in town this week. I used three strands of fine yarn all in different textures (boucle, acrylic and mohair), all of which I thought were too thin to work with, so I wound them all three together and I was very pleased with the texture, color and drape of the yarns together. What do you think?

I can't wait to get home tonight, I have a project that I am hoping I can get done fairly quickly. Someone is wanting a purse, so I don't think that will take too long to complete. So hopefully, I will be able to post some crochet pics to this site soon.

The love life is going better than I expected. I think I have found my soulmate. He's only seen me crocheting once...he calls it "yarning", but don't worry, I quickly corrected him. I will have to get him accustomed to the amount of crocheting that I am used to doing. We've been having a wonderful time together though, but I am definately feeling the urge to create something original. I see inspiration everywhere, and now is definately the season. I've started wearing my scarves and have gotten comments on them. I'd like to design a cowl neck sweater or v-neck sweater using some sort of yummy textured yarn, so stay tuned.

I must have just been lucky to have gotten the best stitch marker swap partners. I ended up with some of the coolest stitch markers...now all I need is something cool to keep them in. The top 4 are from Montana Mommy. I didn't realize how hard it is for me to get a really good closeup of how pretty these are. I want to wear them as earrings.

These are from Brandee....I just love how practical these are. I usually use safety pins as stitch markers and now I will have some cool ones. I have also used them to hold my seams together when making a garment. These are great.

Orange you jealous?

My secret sistah sent me this great package a few days ago...with some of the nicest orange yarn I've ever seen. I can NEVER find any good orange yarn. 2 skeins of Sensations Bellezza Collection Stellina yarn (I know only one is photographed here, but I just had to try some), 4 skeins of Fuzzy Fur in orange tones. I guess my secret sistah was inspired by all the orange and just did a cool orange theme, including orange crush lipsmaker, a nice orange spiral notebook that snaps shut and a lamb tape measure (I can never have too many of these, I always misplace mine). Thank you secret sistah.

1 year ago: I was excited about buying my first home and had been in the house for 4 months and had no idea how many leaves were about to fall in the yard! I'm dreading it and this is my favorite season, maybe not anymore.

I'm nearly done tweaking the pattern...I need a few more photos and to review it again, but I think it came out incredibly close to the original design. I decided to keep this one too and that my new thing was that if I designed something, I was keeping the originals. I might wear her tomorrow.

I'm finally completed another bolero. Lately I have been too occupied or too lazy to try to come up with something. I am seeing so much crochet in the stores for fall and winter and I think it's great! However, I'm not seeing many ponchos...I think they have been replaced by shrugs and boleros this season. I still plan on wearing mine though along with my shawls. What do you think of this one?

Forgive me blogger, for I have strayed. It has been a while since my last post. But since things aren't all peaches and cream in my world, I haven't wanted to have a bunch of mopey, melancholy posts. However, me and William are in negotiations. As of this morning, I'm not feeling that optomistic about it and every time we talk my mood changes about the situation.

Anyways....my little baby (Baloo) has been released back into society (upstairs) for a little over a week now and he hasn't repeated the crime. I had to go back to the vet and get more antibiotics and he seems fine now. It was first a 10 day dose, and then they gave me another 20 day dose. We haven't finished this dose and hasn't had a pill in about 3 days...I should probably give him one tonight and just finish the bottle. I can actually tell how glad he is to be able to have full access to the house. I also purchased some defuser thing that looks like a plug-in to keep him from using it in the same room. So far so good. Thanks to everyone who helped me through this, I hope it's resolved.

I am crocheting a bolero that I'm hoping to have finished tonight. I just have to make the sleeves and trim the whole thing. Then comes the hard part....writing out the pattern. I must have ADD because while sitting here at work, I am writing notes to myself on yet another pattern (large slouchy shrug like the Ya Ya shrug). In my head, I have it figured out....we'll see if I can get the yarn to do what I am envisioning.

I mailed out a package to my secret sistah recently, I dont' want to say too much about that here in case she may read my blog. But I think she will really like it. I have another package ready and working on a third and final one as soon as a few things arrive in the mail I ordered for her.

Okay, I must admit, I have no idea how to tag or be tagged, so I just copied this and blocked it.

1) When I go to bed, my sliding closet doors HAVE to be closed....all the way.

2) When my cds are replaced in their cases, the actual cd has to be turned straight in the case.

3) I have to be dressed (out of PJs) by noon, even if I'm terribly sick (I usually wear sweats if this ithe case of something comfy....just NOT pjs).

4) I WILL NOT share dairy products (so if you're dieing of thirt and I have a tall glass of milk....you're either out of luck...or you can just have it all) and I do not particulary care for anyone to come into direct contact with milk that I might injest...and I will throw away dairy if the date is approaching within a few days, can't risk it.

5) When I'm alone in an elevator....I cant fight the urge to dance.
