MODIFICATIONS:
• You can make this hat “slouchier" by increasing the number of rows you work even.

• To make smaller (child) size, work up to row 6 (or 7), then work even 2 rounds. Then work rows 12 (or 13).

  3. i like the hat, but the outcome does not match the picture. i think the pattern may be a little different.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Anonymous is correct...the picture does NOT match the pattern by a long shot. It looks like there's a band of 5 or 6 rows of hdc to finish. Are you going to post a correction?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm in the same boat. The pattern definitely does not match the picture. I used the correct yarn and crochet hook and did the pattern exactly as specified and the hat turned out HUGE!I hat to take it completely apart and will follow the directions again, but will have to modify it on my own.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Donna, have you been able to correct the pattern on this, given the comments? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The trim is 5 rows of sc stitches, not hdc. The hat in the photo is the pattern as written. Not sure if I added an extra slouchy row to this particular hat and can't be sure since it's no longer in my possession. It may also be the way it fits on a mannequin head or the yarn choice that may make a difference as well. This hat should fit more like a beret than a beanie. Still trying to figure out how to get this blog to notify me of comments because it's not. Let me know if it's still not working out for you.

  9. I love your pattern, I've made 6 of these and at first i thought it look different but it's not. i had it inside out. this is the easiest and fun pattern out there. thank you for writing it.

  10. Thanks for the pattern. It was truly easy to follow and it looks great!

  11. This was easy pattern to follow and hat is adorable. Thank you!

  12. Are you supposed to turn at the end of a row, or do you just keep going round and round?

    ReplyDelete
  13. When the pattern says to dc crochet into a space does that include the middle of a 2 dc stitch or do I dc into both spaces beside the 2 dc stitch? Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks for the pattern, just finished my hat...very cute. This is my first hat that I've made so found it really easy to follow your pattern and will be making some more.
On round 14 I think the pattern should say 1 dc in next 8 spaces* rather than the stated 6.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Round 14 says to work from * to *, and in between the asterisks it reads, "*1 dc in next 7 spaces, dc decrease (see above) in next 2 stitches, 1 dc in next 6 spaces*". Does this mean to dc 13 times, since you dc 6, then back to dc 7?

I just did 6 dc, and then the decrease, and it came out un-even. So then I did 3dc, decrease, around, and it made it a good size.

Also, is there any difference between round 15, and rounds 16-19?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes I am also wondering about the Sp too. can anyone who has made this please explain. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  17. mine turned out too small and a little pointy. I'm not sure what I did wrong because I thought I followed the pattern to the T. :/

    ReplyDelete
  18. This hat will be more like a beret than a beanie. If you want it to fit more like a beanie...work the beginning (increases) until it measure about 7 inches across, then work even to desired slouchiness. Email me directly with specific questions.

  19. Great pattern and very easy to follow! I finished my first one very quickly, and as other people have stated I have become addicted and I am making more for some friends. Thanks!

  20. This is a wonderul pattern,it worked up very quickly and I am very pleased with the results, I will definitely be making more beanie/berets in many different colors. Thank you very much <3

  24. I am making my first real crochet project with this pattern (I have many unfinished practices) but am a little confused at round 11 with the dc...I can't find a good youtube video where it explains to pull up a loop. Also, I am curious as to whether I'm supposed to be turning the hat over when I'm crocheting...I hope I don't have to start over again. Cute pattern.

" I liked this pattern all the way up until the end where I got confused---if you could please answer this quoted question that someone left, it would also answer mine. I am interested in buying some of your patterns, but not if I can't figure them out :( Thanks in advance.

  26. I have just editing this pattern.
Where is stated "spaces" should read "stitches". You should be stitching in the stitches only in the pattern. Also in row 14, I am alternating decreases from 7 dc to 6 dc...this should work out evenly at the end of the row. Rounds 15-19 have been combined...simply work a single crochet in each stitch.

    ReplyDelete
  27. YAY! I'll take out my row 14 and check out your new instructions. Thanks Donna. You rule.

    ReplyDelete
  28. So in round 14 it's pretty much one decrease every 13 stitches?

    ReplyDelete
  29. No...you will decrease after 7, then decrease after 6, then after 7, then after 6...all the way around.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ok love this pattern! I whipped one up and now my kids want a few in different colors. Now on to make a cowl to match..thank u so much!

  31. Hi Donna,
I've made your hat, although not with the new modifications that I've just noticed. My hat has turned out kind of wavy in that when it sits on my head it looks wavy, not smooth like yours. Do you know what could be the cause? It looks like I'm wearing a shower cap, not your beautiful slouchy!
    Thanks for your help, Simone

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sounds like you have more stitches than you need. Perhaps you are stitching in the stitches and the spaces. You should be working in the stitches only...never the spaces.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I want to make this hat in a child's size but the instructions seems confusing. "To make smaller (child) size, work up to row 6 (or 7), then work rows 12 (or 13)." Do you continue on after doing row 12 (or 13), or what?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Just finished making this hat. It's LOVELY! Thank You so much for the free pattern. Very easy to follow and very easy to make :) Oh, and I did add 2 more rows of Rounds 9-10 just to make it more slouchy. Came out perfect for me :) Thanks Again!

  37. Hi, I'm EXTREMELY new to crocheting, and I'm trying to understand what the decrease means, am I supposed to decrease(or skip) one after each set of stitches? I was looking at another pattern that told you how many to decrease by, which is why I'm asking. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks for the beautiful pattern.. I just made it and it came out way small..lol...guess my little one will get it first...lol...
Jayichi... your decreasing by one, your going to yarn over like your doing a dc pull a loop through the hole yarn over again pull another loop through the next stitch then finish the stitch so your making two stitches into one...If anyone needs help youtube is great for learning new stitches...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Do you turn at the end of your rows or just sl st, ch 3 and continue on? I've made this hat both ways, and just love it, but I was curious.

    THANKS FOR THE AWESOME PATTERN!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sandra,
You don't turn, just ch 3 and continue

  41. what does the astarix * stand for in the patterns? i ignored it till like row five.... i hope this doesnt mess up my hat :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. and omg i forgot to turn when i chain 3..:/

    ReplyDelete
  43. I just want to say that I love this hat! When I finished, I noticed the texture was a little bumpy (my own beginner's mistake, most likely). Should I be working with the front loops or the back loops only?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I had the same problem with mine coming out WWAAAAAYYY too big. No way it would fit on my head. I ripped it out and started over 3 times and got the same thing. I'm tossing it out - very disappointed as I really wanted one and can't find a pattern I really liked until this one. I have 30 years crochet experience. Not sure what the heck.

    ReplyDelete
  45. --> Bubbles411
    * asterisks usually enclose some part of the pattern that is repeated until you reach * in those sections. For example:
    * dc in first 3 sc, ch2 dc in last dc * repeat to eor

means you would do the instructions within the asterisk, then repeat that section over and over until the End Of Row.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sorry for the 3rd post - I forgot something. It would be helpful to have a stitch count and the end of the rows, or every other row, so that you could check to see if you're on target or made a mistake and could isolate where the boo boo happened. I couldn't figure out where I went wrong...so I ripped out waaay back and probably didn't need to if I could have figured out which row it was on.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ok, last post. I put it down for a couple of weeks. I decided to go back and try again from the beginning. Right hook size - check. Right yarn - check. Follow the directions this time and everything made sense. The pattern came out right. Start to finish in under 2 hours. Hmmph. Obviously it was me. I think mine doesn't have quite enough slouch, but it's right. Thanks for posting your pattern. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love this pattern! I did have to rip out part of it, as I misunderstood the directions when it started decreasing..Row 11: Directions state: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 5 stitches, *dc decrease in next 2 stitches,(well, I decreased 1X and then went on with the "1 dc in next 6 stitches*" which made the hat HUGE! So, I ripped it out back until that point and redid it, this time decreasing 2X for each place of decrease and continued this for the rest and it came out great! Also, when you get to round 14 I think it should read: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, *dc decrease (see above) in next 2 stitches, 1 dc in next 6 stitches*, continue from * to * ending with sl st in turning chain. (This is how I followed it with the * moved just before the decrease and it worked correctly this way.. I hope this helps, because it really is a cute pattern and it really can come out right.. :0) Thanks so much for posting this pattern! I LOVE IT!

  49. Round 11: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 5 stitches, *dc decrease in next 2 stitches, 1 dc in next 6 stitches*, continue from * to * ending with sl st in turning chain.

Does this means to dc in 5 stitches then decrease dc in next 2 stitches, then dc in next6 stitches, then decrease so on and so forth? I am on Rnd 11 and before I go any further is this correct?

  50. Sounds like you're on the right track Jianni.

  51. Hi
Could someone measure the width after round 8?
I'm using worsted weight yarn, but I really
think this is going to be way too small.
    Thanks so much

    ReplyDelete
  52. My hat is turning out to big.I had to frog my hat over 5 times just to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong and I am not. I had to stop and rnd 10 and skip the decreasing rnds 11-14. I jumped to 15- 19 and its still kind of big. I am using the exact yarn that this pattern calls for and its still not coming out right!! But I love this hat! Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  53. If you skip the decreases, it will be way to big. The hat is worked out flat like a plate for the increases...work a few rounds even (it's going to seem huge at this point), then decrease rounds will make it smaller around the brim...then you'll work it even.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Help! I just finished this pattern and it is way too small. I took it apart 3 times and followed the pattern again and again, confident that I am doing it right---used a J hook and medium weight yarn--any suggestions? I really want to make this hat---Im not sure what worsted weight is but the yarn I have is "medium #4" any suggestions for me?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sounds like your yarn should be alright. Depending on where your hat is too small:

Around the brim too tight: Omit a decrease round and then work it even.

Not slouchy enough: Add more "work even" rounds

    Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Made this today...it took about 2 hours and came out exactly as expected. I tend to crochet pretty tight so I used a size K hook and Caron Simply Soft yarn. I tried to be conscious of working loosely for most of the hat so that it would drape nicely (I've made some other slouchy hats that were way too stiff). I did "work even" one extra row so it would be a little slouchier. When I got to the point of starting the single crochets, the opening was pretty big so I dropped down to an I hook for the sc band. That pulled it in nicely and it came out perfect. Now if it looked as good with my hair as on the mannequin I'd be all set!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hi Donna--I love your pattern! I am pretty new to Crochet but am real close to finising this hat--(for the 4th time ha!)my hat still comes out too small and not slouchy enough--maybe I just have a giant head:-)I took out one row of decrease stiches and replaced even stiches and added one extra row of even stiches to make slouchier as you suggested (I wrote you earlier about my hat turning out to small)---and used a bigger hook-still a little tight--how can I make this hat one size bigger? and a little more slouchey without totally distorting the pattern? Thanks---Im not gonna give up till I get a cute hat!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Loved making this hat. I added 4 extra rounds of Rnds 9-10. I had a problem with round 14, this is how I ended up doing it

Rnd 14: Ch 3, 1 dc in next 6 stitches, dc decrease *1 dc in next 6 stitches, dc decrease (see above) in next 2 stitches, 1 dc in next 7 stitches, dc decrease *, continue from * to * ending with sl st in turning chain.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I added 5 rows total that I worked even then I did 6 rows total of sc and it turned out much more like the picture. Not sure it's a perfect replica but much better than the original result I ended up with following the directions perfectly, I am using the same kindbof yarn suggested so I know that was not the reason.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I love your pattern and I will be making one soon.

  61. Extra rows in the "work even" is the way to go. I did 5 total and though it looks huge. It works out when you start the decrease. I think next time when I make one for my mom, I'll do 4 total, and about 6 rows of SC around the face. J hook is key too. I tried with my old faithful G, and it fit my small 8 yr old. So extra "work even" rows, a J hook, and extra SC around the face, and you'll have this awesome hat. Thanks for the pattern! :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. im on row 10 is it supposed to look flat and round and slightly ripply?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay, I just finished the hat. It works up pretty quickly. It took me a little over an hour. I used the pattern exactly as written, except I added one extra even row. Results: It is cute, but worked the way the pattern suggests, it looks more like a regular beret than it does a slouchy beret. I would probably add 4 rows of even. Also, if you have a bigger head like mine, I suggest that you not do the last row of decrease. Oh, and at round 10, it does still look flat. Rebekah, work even means no increase or decrease.

  64. Love the look of this hat, but after reading comments I am hesitating to make it, have all issues with the pattern been resolved?? I dont want to keep checking posts as i crochet

    ReplyDelete
  65. Fantastic pattern! Easy to follow. Looks great! Took me roughly 2 and a half hours and I only started learning crochet a few weeks ago. Going to attempt a Christmas style later :) Just skipped through the comments and wondered if the dc is UK or USA (I'm UK)? I was told these stitches are constructed differently and maybe this is why some say it doesnt look like the hat in the picture?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Just finished the hat...and it turned out beautiful, just like the pic and a perfect fit.! Starting another one today! Thanks for the pattern!

    ReplyDelete
  67. It would be nice to know how many stitches we have at the end of each round. Can you alter the pattern so I will know how many stitches I am supposed to have.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Nope this pattern does not match the picture above. Even with the revisions thanks to the comments here, it still does not come out right. I have wasted enough time on this one so I think I will give it to my daughter and go search online for a different one.

  69. Luv the hat pattern. Would luv to try it.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Marsha said:

I just finished this and it came out beautiful.

Here are the number of stitches you should have at the end of each row:
    #1 - 12
    #2 - 24
    #3 - 36
    #4 - 48
    #5 - 60
    #6 - 72
    #7 - 84
    #8 - 96
    #9-10 - 96
    #11 - 84
    #12 - 72
    #13 - 60
    #14 - 52
    #15-19 - 52

When you're counting stitches on the decreasing rows remember to count the 2 you decreased as 1 stitch instead of 2.

I think row #14 is the trickiest, but if you're close to 52 stitches you'll be fine.

I did add a couple of "even" rows and edge rows.

I believe this is more of an intermediate project than beginner, but it isn't extremely difficult.

  71. i love this slouchy first one i mmade so easy tys

    ReplyDelete
  72. for the child's hat, what do you do after row 12 or 13

    ReplyDelete
  73. This was a fun pattern so thank you for sharing. I think I'll use a bigger crochet needle for the over all body of the hat and the j10-6.00mm for the border of the hat. I added 6 extra rows that I worked evenly but I think I might add two or three more my next time around.

    ReplyDelete
  74. For a child's hat I would just use a smaller hook. The smaller the hook the smaller the hat. You might keep decreasing until it is small enough, but I would think the body of the hat would be too big.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Okay I'm on Row 14 and want to make sure I done the others correct. For Row 11 start with 5 dc then decrease then 6 dc then decrease. Do we continue on with 6 or does it go 5,decrease,6,decrease,5, decrease. Like Donna said in her comment about row 14 going 7,decrease,6,decrease,7? Please help before I go CRAZY wih this as I'm a newbie!:)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I don't really understand the decrease. Is there another way to do it?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Donna, Bless your heart for this great pattern. My college age daughter wanted a slouchy hat and all the ones I found in the stores were poorly made and way too costly. I finished this in an evening while watching tv, well listening really, and it looks exactly like your hat in the picture. Made it with Vanna's Choice and DD is thrilled. Thank you so much. If someone is trying to learn crochet, I suggest making a scarf before attempting this hat. I found your pattern to make perfect sense.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I've been crocheting about 5 months now and even though I don't consider myself a beginner anymore, I'm not really intermediate yet. I made one of these hats last night and another one tonight. They turned out exactly like the picture. Also, it's one of the easiest patterns I've ever followed. Thanks for sharing this Donna. Wonderful job!

  79. Gah! this is so frustrating...for Round 9-10 it reads "Ch 3, 1dc in each stitch around (WORK EVEN) What happens once youve worked the rows? Every round before that says "end with sl st in turning chain" ...are we suppose to do that here and someone just for got to type that part?? I was doing so well..I dont want to get stuck!!! Any help from anyone??!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  80. After each round of DC's you end with a sl st in the turning chain. That is pretty universal so probably is why she didn't type it in.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I tried doing the child size so it wont turn all huge and it did...EPIC FAIL... the hat rezches the end of my neck.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks for the pattern, I'm new to crocheting and want to try a hat :-)

  83. HI I LOVE THE PATTERN MINE CAME OUT A LIL SMALL AND NOT AS SLOUCHY AS YOURS I WANTED TO KNOW EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS TO MAKE IT SLOUCHIER TO ADD ROWS WHEN MAKING EVEN HOW MANY DID YOU USE IT IS PERFECT AND WANT THE SAME AFFECT

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but in the earlier comments i read that people were confused about "Round 14: Ch 3, *1 dc in next 7 stitches, dc decrease (see above) in next 2 stitches, 1 dc in next 6 stitches*, continue from * to * ending with sl st in turning chain."

I just assumed that the asterisk was meant to be AFTER "1 dc in the next 7 stitches" rather than before it, because that's how the previous steps were. It worked out perfectly for me.

And Donna, thanks for the pattern!

    ReplyDelete
  85. This works up so quickly and is really cute!! Thanks for the pattern!!

  86. I have a question I'm new at this. I use the patterns from the free crochet patterns and it's telling me I could sell on line as long as I link it to the pattern. Can some tell me what to do?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I altered this a bit. For everything that is a DC i used a larger hook. M/9mm and when i did the ending with the single crochets... i used the J hook. Turned out much slouchier and i did 3 rows of working even. I like it the way i altered it a bit more, as its a little more flexible and still fits just fine!

    thank you for the pattern!

Loved this pattern I see alot of post with people having problems but mine came out just fine..I have really curly natural hair so I worked a total of 8 even rows to give me more slouch but I also used a I hook because I wanted a tighter stitch for my hat...now for the summer I am going to use a bigger hook to give this hat a more summery feel...thanks for the pattern again...

  89. Well.. this really didn't turn out the way I hoped. It's a sort of nice hat, but doesn't really suit me. I worked 4 rows even and it's just not slouchy enough. It's more a puffy beret. I don't really feel like tearing it out and re-doing it. So I won't give this hat another go. But it's still a nice pattern and I think it will be cute on little children.

  90. I am having problems with Round 14. I understand that I am to ch 3, dc in next 7 stitches, dc decreased in next
2 stitches and do 1 dc in next 6 stitches. What do I do after then? Am I suppose to do " 1 dc in the nexr 7 stitches" again? Please advise me

  91. Hello All! I just made the hat and found out why everyone is so confused.
Each row should be increased by 12 stitches, therefore the problem lies in that the instructions do not tell you to end with 2 dc stitches. So for example, in round 3 it states: *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch*, continue from * to * ending with sl st in turning chain. whereas it should say the following: *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st* around. Notice the difference is that you end with the 2 dc instead of the 1 dc. Do the same thing in round 4-8 and you should have an increase of 12 stitches each round. If you mark your 1st stitch in every round and count your stitches as Martha has given you above then it should turn out just perfect. 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72,84, 96, Rnd 9-10 = 96 since it is just a repeat for 2 rounds. then in rnd. 11 you will start decreasing 12 stitches; from 96 to 84, 72, 60 and 52. 15-19 will remain at 52. Another confusion I think people are having is that she says "turning chain" She does not turn, she just chains 3 at the beginning of each round so don't let the word "turning" confuse you.
RND. 14 should read: * 1 dc in next 7 st, decrease, 1 dc in next 6 st, decrease; ending with dc in 7 stitches, decrease. If you end up with 53 instead of 52 it's not that big of a deal, just do an extra decrease at the end. Then do 5-6 rounds of SC to make the band. I did an extra round to make it 6. I also liked it better flipped inside out; just a personal preference. Hope this helps!

    1. I'm halfway through the pattern, ending with the single dc. Next hat I will have to refer to your comment. Thanks!

  92. I am halfway through mine and it is definitely looking more beret-ish than the photo. Next one I will have to try some chunkier yarn and use Linda's (comment above mine) suggestions. All in all, it is an extremely easy pattern to follow. And I usually have a hard time with patterns, me being a southpaw and all :-)

  93. You mentioned you loved that yarn. Which yarn did you use?

    1. It's called "I Love This Yarn" from Hobby Lobby.

Instead of that recommendation, I made a few of mine with a heavier worsted and the J hook (as recommended), and it turned out just fine. The rest I made out of Caron Country, and they look fabulous.

  94. I followed the directions exactly, including materials, and it turned out so small it wouldn't even fit my head beret style! It wouldn't sit on my head at all in any way, and I am petite and have a small head. I noticed Donna mentioned in a comment to someone that if you want it to fit more like a beanie, to work increase rounds until the piece measures 7 inches across and then work the even rounds. That's how much it measures normally just before the work even rounds, at least for me, and it's still small. I'm going try again and omit 1 or 2 increase rounds before the sc brim, and if it still doesn't fit I'm moving on to another pattern.

  95. I meant I'm going to omit a couple of DEcrease rounds, not increase rounds. And by omit I mean work them even rather than decreasing.

  96. Had fun making this and my daughter lives it. Her room mate wants me to make her one too!! Has no problems, but did add two extra rows to make it slouchier. Thanks again!!!!

  99. This did not work up for me right at all. WAY too big and I have been crocheting for 20 years, I followed the pattern exactly. Disappointed.

  100. Thank you SO much for the pattern. I honestly hate hate hate slouchy hats but my mom has been begging me for one so I made this one. It came out perfect and fits spectacular. Idk how people are screwing it up. I have about 2 years of experience and did just fine.. How does someone with 20 years mess it up? Lol.
Anyways. I have a feeling after her hat I'll have more requests. . . yay... =P thanks alot.

  101. I'm making my second one today (the first one I made last year). I'm wondering if those following the pattern are TURNING their work. I didn't on my first one and it looked fine. I will be turning it for this one and I will see what happens.

  103. I think this pattern is great! Just made my first one and it turned out wonderful. Not exactly like the picture but I think that is because of the yarn I used. Thanks Donna! Awesome pattern.

  105. I LOVE this pattern! I've made at least 20 of them, and you cannot ruin the hat by making a mistake--I know, because I've made some mistakes, and they just do not show!!

  108. I think the other poster might be correct. There is a difference in reading stitches for U.S. patterns and Australian or English patterns. sc is not sc as we know it in America in those places. see here for a great chart to help with this:
    http://www.freshstitches.com/american-british-conversion-crochet-hook-size-stitch-names/
Hope this will help those whose hats were not the right size. I haven't made mine yet but hope to start today. Great pattern, thank you Donna.

  110. Hello,

I haven't made this hat yet, but I'd like to know if I can use bedspread thread (10) instead of the regular yarn? What size hook would I use?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I taught myself to crochet about a month ago. I used a 6mm hook and Red Heart Super Saver yarn and followed the pattern as currently written. It worked out almost exactly like the picture. I think I would work in some more even rows next time to make it slouch more, but maybe I'll change my mind after I wash it and let the yarn loosen up a bit.

    Thanks for the pattern!

  115. I just made this. I had to scroll down through the comments to figure it out completely....I had to write it down differently when I did. I never turned my work. The Turning chains made it sound as if I had to. and Step 14 was easy to figure out once I read Donna's comment on how you alternate between 7 and 6 crochet 7 decrease crochet 6 decrease. Other then that this was very simple to make. I will be making one again in a different color to match some mittens and a neck warmer. I hope we have a chilly fall. Thanks again for the pattern.

  116. The work on my hat was going well until the 12th row. I have the required stitches (84) in Round 11, with the decreases coming out in multiples of seven, ending the round with a decrease stitch. However, when I get to the end of the 12th round, I end with the 5 dc's, but have no room for the decrease stitch, which means I've come up short with no room for my last decrease in that round. What am I doing wrong?

  117. This is the easiest pattern I have ever crocheted. Thank you very much everyone I see wants one. I have crocheted 6 of them and several more to make for Christmas gifts.

  119. Just want to say this is the best slouchy hat pattern I have found. And believe me i spent months searching. I do have to say though...as i do not have access to all the awesome yarns that is available to u (i get a generic yarn)..i had to add 6 extra rows (of work even rows) to get the slouch i wanted. But fabulous pattern. Thank you from the Caribbean.

    1. I just made this hat and followed the pattern precisely and it turned out small. It barely fits my 4-year-old. Also, it's not slouchy, it fits like a beret.

  121. I have 2 questions about row 14:

    1) the pattern says to ch3 then dc7, but in the note you say that the ch3 counts as the first dc... So wouldn't that be 8dc?

    2) the way it's written, we are supposed to dc6 then go straight to dc7...that equals 13dc. But if we are to alternate dec then shouldn't it say to dec again before the last *?

    ReplyDelete
  122. I followed the pattern almost precisely and it turned out perfect. I added one row at the part it said to make it slouchier add more rows. I only added one and it is a slouchy hat, not a beanie. Also, there is a mistake in the row that talks about 7dc and 6dc...it should have said 6dc, then decrease, the repeat to * 7dc, then decrease, then 6 dc, then decrease.

  123. I just completed this hat like 5 min ago and i used the yarn and hook suggested and it turned out perfect. I read all the comments before starting and it made me a lil afraid bcuz the comments went back and forth. I followed the pattern EXACTLY...no changes whatsoever. The words "turning chain" threw me at first. I slipped stitched in the 3rd chain and continued as normal. NO TURNING. Row 14 I did what it said * to * so it went from 7 dc to 6 dc between decreases. I wish I could send a pic bcuz I absolutely love how this hat turned out. So thank you so much for a wonderful pattern.
